Welcome to Bella Vista’s January 2010 Newsletter
The canvas has been pulled, stretched, and primed, and is eagerly waiting to be painted. What will you paint on the fresh white canvas? A landscape, a portrait, or will you let your imagination run wild? The wonderful thing about the new year, like a new canvas, is the endless possibilities. Although, some of the most intriguing and successful paintings are those that the artist struggled with till completion. All those layers of frustration and emotions and the artist's strong desire to will themselves over the medium. I am sure this year will be filled with struggles big and small; just as I am sure that there will be wonderful things too. Who knows, this could be the year that you create a masterpiece!
While looking out the window from home and seeing snow pile up; I was taken back by what I saw. The simplicity and subtle beauty of colors reflected in the snow. The coldness of the white snow was softened by beautiful shades of oranges, purples, and pinks. Galen Frost Bernard's two latest landscapes paintings, "Frosted I" and "Frosted II" really capture the soft layers of colors on snow resting on the chaotic scenery. Galen's panel paintings reach up to the heavens, with snow slightly covering dirt, waste, and garbage. Maybe Galen wants us all to reach our potentials, strive for higher expectations, and be above pettiness and waste. For sure he is remarking on the beauty that exists amongst the chaos. Currently in the gallery on display is Judson Guerard's "River Rock Series". With shades of white to gray and dark to light, this piece exudes a quiet elegance. A simple concept..........how complex the vision.
I hope everyone has a Healthy Happy New Year.
